The Album - Thriller
Michael Jackson's “Thriller” album officially came out in 1983, yet it was release on the 30th of November 1982. He started recording it on the 14th of April, originally to be called “Starlight”. The recordings took place at the Westlake Recording Studios in Los Angeles, California. The deadline had to be extended, while Michael, an unvanquished perfectionist, was not entirely satisfied with the mixes.
The album includes 9 remarkable tracks. “Wanna Be Startin' Something”, “The Girl Is Mine”, “Beat It” and “Billie Jean” are written by Michael himself, “Baby Be Mine”, “Thriller” and “The Lady In My Life” are written by Rod Temperton, “Human Nature” is written by Steve Porcaro and John Bettis, and “P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)” is written by James Ingram and Quincy Jones.
The masterpiece is a music phenomenon of pop, R&B, rock, funk and post-disco. By the end of 1984, it was the no.1 album of many charts, such as the U.S. Billboard Pop Albums, the UK Albums Chart, the Australian Albums Chart and the Japanese Albums Chart. By that time, it had sold 33 million copies, entering the Guinness Book of World Record for the best selling album of all time. It was the first time ever an album had the no1 position, both in the UK and the USA at the same time.
